HISTORY OF THE ASANOV SHOOTING CLUB
The Asanov Shooting Club was founded in October 2002 under the name “Alatau Shooting Club.” In 2007, the club underwent a renaming and is now named after one of Kazakhstan’s most renowned marksmen, the Honored Master of Sports, A. Asanov.
Alexander Alexeyevich Asanov was born on August 16, 1953, in the village of Uchkhoz near Almaty. At the time, his father worked as a schoolteacher, and his mother was a nurse.
While still in school, Alexander began practicing trap shooting under the guidance of his father and his unwavering coach, Alexey Andreyevich Asanov (Honored Master of Sports of the USSR in trap shooting, Honored Coach of the USSR, Honored Coach of the Kazakh SSR, Republican-level judge, Honored Worker of Culture of the Kazakh SSR). He later enrolled in the Kazakh Institute of Physical Culture, successfully graduating in 1975.
Alexander’s first significant sporting success came in 1977 when he emerged victorious at the European Championship held in England, both in individual and team events. In the same year, he was awarded the title of International Master of Sports, and in 1981, he became an Honored Master of Sports of the USSR.
In 1984, during the “Friendship 84” competition held in Moscow, Alexander scored 199 out of 200 targets. Interestingly, the winner of the Olympics in Los Angeles, for which Alexander had diligently prepared, Italian shooter Dzhovanetti, scored 192 out of 200.
